This significant decision entails a comprehensive restructuring of various government agencies, with actions ranging from merging and subsuming to scrapping and relocating entities.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, elucidated on this development during a briefing with State House Correspondents after a Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. He emphasized President Tinubu's commitment to making far-reaching decisions in the best interest of Nigeria.

Under this directive, a committee has been established to oversee the execution of mergers, scrapping, and relocations within a stipulated timeframe of 12 weeks, as disclosed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Mrs. Hadiza Bala-Usman.

The Oronsaye report, submitted in 2012, revealed the existence of 541 Federal Government parastatals, commissions, and agencies, both statutory and non-statutory. It recommended significant reforms, including reducing the number of statutory agencies from 263 to 161, scrapping 38 agencies, merging 52 entities, and reverting 14 to departments within ministries.

Furthermore, the report advocated for legislative changes such as repealing the law establishing the National Salaries and Wages Commission and transferring its functions to the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Responsibility Commission. It also proposed the merger of Nigeria's top three anti-corruption agencies—the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Code of Conduct Bureau. 

President Tinubu's decision to implement these recommendations underscores a proactive approach towards streamlining government operations, enhancing efficiency, and promoting accountability within the public sector.
