Release Nnamdi Kanu, We’ll Make You Our Hero In South East – Igbo Youths Writes
In a statement released by the Coalition Of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), a youth-based Igbo interest group, President Bola Tinubu is urged to become a hero by releasing the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr Nnamdi Kanu. The group, known as RALD NEWS MEDIA, reports that COSEYL emphasizes Tinubu's historical advocacy for the rule of law and respect for court orders, referencing his involvement in NADECO and the fight against military junta and dictatorship.
As the Supreme Court is set to decide on Nnamdi Kanu's case on December 15, 2023, the South East Geopolitical Zone anticipates his return. COSEYL calls on President Tinubu to champion the rule of law by releasing Kanu from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody. The group expresses its commitment to celebrating Tinubu for upholding the principles he fought for during the military era.
COSEYL believes that the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu would signify Tinubu's dedication to his principles and contribute to ending insecurity in the South East. Kanu, who has been in detention for over two years following his arrest in Kenya in 2021, faces a pivotal moment as the Supreme Court prepares to make a decision. Despite previous court orders for his release, his extended detention has raised concerns about adherence to the rule of law.
