Mr. Imoyo, who served as the head of the frontline financial services group's corporate communications, passed away in the early hours of December 17, 2023, following a brief illness, as disclosed by his brother Tunde Imoyo.


While the bank is yet to issue an official statement, it is evident that Mr. Imoyo's contributions were highly valued within the industry. His notable collaborations with Access Bank's top executive, Herbert Wigwe, were highlighted in his online profile. Media professionals, including Emmanuel Okeke, a Lagos-based newspaper editor, praised Mr. Imoyo for his prompt responses to media inquiries and his adeptness in fostering business partnerships with various media agencies.


Even in challenging situations where media reports stirred anxiety at the company's headquarters, Mr. Imoyo remained a composed professional. Emmanuel Okeke noted that Mr. Imoyo played a crucial role in educating corporate communications departments in other institutions, leaving behind a void that will be felt for an extended period.


Mr. Imoyo's journey in corporate communications began after graduating from Lagos State University in 2002. After obtaining an MBA from the University of Lagos, he commenced his career as a corporate communications officer at the United Bank of Africa before joining Access Bank.


In a 2021 interview, Mr. Imoyo acknowledged the evolving nature of journalism into a 24/7 commitment, a reality he embraced in his role as a media manager. He emphasized the challenges of working in a constantly evolving media landscape, where news dissemination occurs across print, TV, radio, and online platforms.


Despite the demanding nature of his profession, Mr. Imoyo found solace in the positive rapport he maintained with the media. In an interview with reporter Susan Awobiye, he expressed gratitude for the goodwill extended to him by his colleagues in the field.
