Sanwo-Olu swears in new cabinet member, two permanent secretaries


Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State presided over the inauguration of a new member of the Executive Council and two Permanent Secretaries.

At the ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu explained that the appointment of a new member to the State Executive Council aimed to broaden the scope of governance in the state’s healthcare system. Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogunyemi, a qualified nurse with a two-term membership in the Lagos State Health Service Commission, was sworn in as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health.

In addition, the governor promoted two directors within the state civil service to the position of Permanent Secretaries. Mr. Adewunmi Ogunsanya, who served as the Director of Administration and Human Resources at the Ministry of Youth and Social Development, was appointed Permanent Secretary for the Cabinet Office. Similarly, Mrs. Iyabo Seriki-Bello, who had held the role of Director of Administration and Human Resources at Education District IV, now serves as the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).

Governor Sanwo-Olu extended his congratulations to the appointees and encouraged them not to become complacent, emphasizing the high expectations placed on them to justify their appointments. He expressed confidence in their ability to meet their responsibilities based on their extensive experience and expertise in governance.

He welcomed Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogunyemi to the State Executive Council, recognizing her confirmation by the House of Assembly as the Special Adviser on Health. The governor emphasized the importance of her wealth of experience and expressed the hope that she would swiftly acclimate to her responsibilities to help implement various programs and activities within her portfolio.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, acknowledging the strategic and crucial roles assigned to them. He expressed his trust in their pedigrees and years of service to the state, anticipating their rapid adaptation to their positions and the prompt discharge of their duties.

The governor urged the appointees to familiarize themselves with the government’s development agenda known as THEMES Plus, emphasizing that the implementation of these programs remains on track. Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of gender equality and youth inclusion in his administration, demonstrating his commitment to inclusive governance through the appointment of women and young individuals to key positions.
