Flight Operations Resume at Ibadan Airport Following Brief Closure by Federal Authorities

Ibadan, Oyo State - Flight activities have recommenced at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a temporary closure by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The closure was initiated as part of investigations into a private jet accident that took place at the airport on a Friday night, as reported by Sunday Emmynet24 News Media.

The aircraft, which crash-landed near the runway, disrupted operations at the airport, prompting the deployment of accident investigators to the scene. However, sources at the airport confirmed that the facility was now open for business, with a domestic airline already resuming operations on Sunday.

An anonymous senior airport official disclosed, "It was shut down briefly for yesterday (Saturday) only, but reopened for operations this (Sunday) morning. Overland resumed flights this (Sunday) morning."

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau confirmed the aircraft crash-landing on Saturday morning but emphasized that there were no casualties. Investigators from the bureau were dispatched to the scene, promising to provide further details as they unfolded.

Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, stating that their personnel were en route to the location but did not have specific details at that time.

The aircraft, operated by FLINT AERO, had departed from Abuja en route to Ibadan and crashed short of the runway at the Ibadan Airport. The HS25B aircraft, with call sign 5NAMM, carried 10 passengers and three crew members. It took off from Abuja at 18:41hrs and crashed into the bush short of the runway around 19:21hrs. Thankfully, all passengers and crew were safely evacuated despite substantial damage to the aircraft.

In a statement on Saturday, James Odaudu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, confirmed the commencement of an investigation into the accident. The aircraft, with 10 passengers and three crew members onboard, was en-route from Abuja to Ibadan, and it crashed short of the runway during the final approach.

Odaudu also encouraged the public to provide any video clips, relevant evidence, or information that could assist with the investigation, as the NSIB seeks to uncover the full details of the incident.
