FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PLANS TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS MEALS TO 100,000 DISPLACED CHILDREN IN THE NORTH

Dr. Yetunde Adeniji, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding, has unveiled the Federal Government's initiative to feed 100,000 displaced children in the Northern region. During a familiarisation tour, Adeniji sought the support of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Emir of Borgu Kingdom, Mohammed Dantoro, to facilitate the program.

Adeniji disclosed that the government aims to kickstart the feeding initiative with 5,000 displaced children in the initial phase, with plans to progressively increase the number to 100,000. The statement issued by her media team in Abuja highlighted the commitment of the Emir of Borgu Kingdom to supporting the school feeding program initiated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During the courtesy visit, the Emir emphasized the importance of effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation for the sustainability of the school feeding program. Adeniji stated, "This program plans to capture 5,000 displaced children at the first instance, with the hope of increasing it to 50,000 and 100,000 subsequently."

The governor of Nasarawa State expressed confidence in the capacity of President Tinubu's Senior Special Assistant to bring reforms to ensure the success of the school feeding program. He pledged the support of the Nasarawa State Government towards achieving the objectives of the program.

The delegation, extending its familiarisation tour, also met with the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, Aliyu Tijani. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration and address school feeding concerns for a diverse group of children, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Almajiris, and individuals with disabilities.
